Reimagining climate futures: Using critical futures studies to explore scenarios for Ljungby municipality in Sweden

Locally relevant climate change scenarios were developed using a collaborative approach in Ljungby municipality in southern Sweden. Building on the rich cultural heritage of oral storytelling in the region, the final scenarios were presented as ”stories from the future”.

The project was first initiated by the local municipality and the scenario development included representatives from local politics, business, civil society as well as local artists. A new workshop approach was piloted, combining creativity and criticality with the aim of creating scenarios that pushed the boundaries for what is deemed plausible and desirable.

Through collaboration with the organisation Berättarnätet Kronoberg the scenarios were developed into short stories presented at the annual storytelling festival, making the results accessible to the larger community.

The scenarios were made in: 2020

The scenarios look out to: 2050
